Doctrine Of God 6

In this lesson we will study the presence and the knowledge of God.

The Bible teaches that God is omnipresent. That is just a fancy way of saying that God is everywhere. He is in all places at all times. Though our mind cannot comprehend this truth, it is easy to prove from the scriptures.

God is a person, and in His personal presence God the Father is in Heaven. In the same sense, Jesus, God the Son, was on earth and is now in Heaven, yet He lives in every believer and has promised that where two or three gather together in His name He will be in the midst of them.

First. The personal presence of God is in Heaven.

Matthew 5:16: Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

John 20:17: Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.

Acts 7:55-56: But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God, 56 And said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God.

Second. God is everywhere through His own presence.

Jeremiah 23:23 -24: Am I a God at hand, saith the LORD, and not a God afar off? 24 Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the LORD. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the LORD.

Proverbs 15:3: The eyes of the LORD are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.

Psalms 139:7-10: Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? 8 If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. 9 If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; 10 Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.

Acts 17:27-28: That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us: 28 For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.

There is no place we can hide from Him. This truth is scary if we are not right with Him and a blessing if we are in His will.

Third. He is omniscient. He knows everything. His knowledge is infinite, it knows no bounds.

Job 37:16: Dost thou know the balancings of the clouds, the wondrous works of him which is perfect in knowledge?

The knowledge of God is perfect and complete. The knowledge of all of the people who have ever lived or are alive today combined does not add up to His knowledge. Let us consider two particulars regarding the knowledge of God.

One. His knowledge extends to the end of the universe and to the minutest details.

Psalms 147:4-5: He telleth the number of the stars; he calleth them all by their names. 5 Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite.

Matthew 10:29-31: Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. 30 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 31 Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.

Not one bird falls to earth without Him. We are never alone. He is concerned about our every need and can meet all of them.

Two. He knows the thoughts of each individual.

Proverbs 5:21: For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and he pondereth all his goings.

1 Chronicles 28:9: And thou, Solomon my son, know thou the God of thy father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind: for the LORD searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts: if thou seek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever.

Psalms 139:2: Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off.

Jeremiah 17:9-10: The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? 10 I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.

He knows what our thoughts will be before we think them and our words before we speak them.

Isaiah 65:24: And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.

He knows the thoughts of all of the six or seven billion individuals on earth. When we think no one understands, He does. He knows all the patterns of our thinking. We make mistakes but He never does.

Proverbs 3:5: Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

It is wise to trust in the all-knowing God rather than ourselves. If we do not, one day we will wish we had.
